Hand Drums

Made by native craftsmen from the Taos Pueblo, NM.

Made from bent wood or assembled sections. When the frame is finished, wet rawhide is stretched over one or both sides of the hoop and laced to the frame.

Historically, hand drums were an essential part of spiritual ceremonies for vision, power, celebration and healing. For centuries, Pueblo drums have been painted with symbolic colors and designs to bring a special unifying power to tribal ceremony. The Painted Drums combine the traditional with new directions in the ancient craft of drum making by utilizing the tri-cultural artistic resources from the Northern new Mexico area.

Single, or double-headed, drums are manageable in size (just 2 to 4 inches deep), coupled with the strong, full sound they emit, make Taos hand drums a popular choice for playing and displaying.

Take care of the drum. The drum is the heartbeat of the people. It symbolizes unity.

We do custom drum painting on request. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for custom orders.
